Fuel Up to Play 60

Round Rock ISD is participating in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program; Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Dairy Council (NDC) and NFL, in collaboration with the USDA, to combat childhood obesity. Fuel Up to Play 60 helps students make positive changes in their schools by improving opportunities to consume nutrient-rich foods and get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Please go to the Fuel Up to Play 60 website to learn more about this program: http://www.fueluptoplay60.com. You and your student can join the Canyon Creek Elementary team by registering on this website. If you choose to do this, please note that our school district is found by selecting Williamson County on the registration page. Please know that, conceptually, this is not a new or unique program. You can use it to embellish or expand the basic tenants of Canyon Creek Physical and Wellness Education:

No Smoking – Never use Tobacco.

No Parking – Move every chance you get.

More Matters – Eat more vegetables and fruits.

Increasing daily physical activity and quality nutrition has been, and always will be, the foundation of our Physical and Wellness Education

2012 GREEN DAY

is Saturday, March 3, from 8:30-12!! Get your gardening tools out, your gloves on and come help ready our school for beautiful spring weather. We will be weeding, trimming, planting, and mulching, so lots of helping hands are needed. Can't stay the whole time? No problem - even 1 hour of your time will be very helpful. This is also a great way to earn volunteer hours for middle and high-school students. There will be donuts and OJ for all the hard workers. We are looking for a great turn-out so please mark your calendars now!

Earn money for CCE's PTA

By shopping at Amazon. The key is linking through the PTA's website. There is a link on the PTA's website at http://www.canyoncreekpta.com/ that will take you to Amazon. If you use this link, a percentage (up to 8%) of the purchase price will then be given to the PTA. What an easy way to contribute to the wonderful programs the Canyon Creek PTA provides. If you have any questions, contact Fundraising Chair, Cory Vessa, vessacory@hotmail.com or Fundraising@CanyonCreekPTA.com

Lunch Room News

If you have visited your child during the lunch times, you will notice a new "look" to the cafeteria. We have a new arrangement to the cafeteria tables that has been a great improvement to both safety and traffic during the lunch times. In addition, we have new guidelines for visiting and talking with our friends. Ask your child to explain them to you, as we worked with all students, grade level by grade level to practice appropriate behavior in our cafeteria. In a nutshell, we have introduced intermittent music to help signal when we can talk and visit. It has worked very well these past few days and we look forward to more pleasant dining experiences for all in the CCE cafeteria.

MUSIC IN THE CLASSROOM NEEDS YOU

This fall, we will be presenting a program on the life and work of Beethoven! (“Ode to Joy,” Nine and a half symphonies, drama, suspense, romance!) In the spring, we will do the same with The Beatles! (“Let It Be,” “Obl la dee,” “In an Octopus’s Garden,” “Yellow Submarine” and more!) The only criteria are that you must enjoy music

To volunteer to help present this program, email Marilyn Norrod at Marilyn@marilynrucker.com

What is a Day Worth?

Student absenteeism impacts the absent student, teacher, their classmates and the district. Did you know that every time a student is absent, in addition to the student having to make up work and catch up on learning, the teacher must also provide the previous days' lesson while concurrently continuing the educational process for students who were absent? Please help all children in the district by ensuring your student is present for school every day.

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” Plato. Looking for a way to interact with your child, see the kids at play and make a difference at the school? Then lunch recess is the place for you! Lunch recess for the third, fourth and fifth graders is a special treat, but it cannot happen without your help. We need volunteers in order for the children to be able to play outside after lunch. We would love to have you as often or as little as your schedule allows -- once a week, once a month or once a semester, whatever your availability - we have a need that you can fill. Please visit the online schedule at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/lunch434http://www.signupgenius.com/go/lunch434. If you have any questions please contact Allison Block at mailto:allison@blocked.orgallison@blocked.org.

Recycle your HEB plastic grocery bags

AND earn money for CCE at the same time. When you have 20-50 bags, stack them facing the same direction, then roll them as tightly as possible from the bottom end up to the handle to create a small log. Use two separate bags, 1 at each end, to tie the log. Make sure to remove all cash register receipts, produce bags etc. from the bags. ONLY HEB plastic bags would be recycled through this program. The collection bin is located by the main entrance staircase across from the elevator. This program will run through the 2011-12 school year. Any questions contact Environmental Awareness committee chair, Kalpana Dangi at 2499040 or at kalpanadangi@yahoo.com
